Privacy Policy

1. Overview

eQuran (also known as Tafsir Al-Quran, the "App") is published by BUFIB ("we", "us"). The App is designed to be offline-first and private by design. It does not require an account, does not display advertising, and does not use third-party analytics or tracking. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App handles, where it is stored, and the limited circumstances in which the App communicates over the internet.

2. Data stored on your device

The App stores your personal usage information locally on your device only. This information is not transmitted to us or to any third party. It includes:

• Your current reading position and reading history;
• Bookmarks and saved verses;
• Personal notes you create;
• Memorization progress and related flags;
• App settings and preferences, such as your chosen language, theme, translation, reciter and prayer-time calculation method.

Because this data lives on your device, it is controlled by you. Removing the App, or clearing its data through your operating system, deletes this information.

3. Location, prayer times & qibla

To calculate prayer times and to point the qibla compass toward the Ka'bah, the App may request access to your device's location. Your location is used on the device only and is never transmitted to us or to any third party. If you decline location access, these features may be unavailable or may require you to set a location manually.

4. Network requests

Certain content is fetched on demand from our content service at app.bufib.de, specifically:

• Recitation audio when you play or download a reciter's recitation; and
• Tafsir (commentary) when you open the commentary for a verse.

These requests necessarily include the surah and ayah (verse) being requested so that the correct content can be delivered. Standard technical information required to complete an internet request (such as your device's IP address) may be processed by the serving infrastructure, as is the case for any network connection. We do not use this information to build a profile of you, and we do not associate it with an identity or account, because the App has no accounts.

5. What we do not do

To be explicit, the App does not:

• Require registration or an account;
• Display advertisements;
• Use third-party analytics, advertising SDKs or tracking technologies;
• Sell, rent or share your personal information; or
• Transmit your bookmarks, notes, memorization data, settings or location off your device.

6. Prayer reminders

If you enable prayer reminders, they are delivered as local notifications scheduled on your device based on locally computed prayer times. No reminder data is sent to an external server, and enabling reminders does not transmit information about you.

7. General audiences

The App is suitable for general audiences. Because the App does not collect personal information into any account or server, it does not knowingly gather data from children or any other user.

8. Data retention & deletion

Since your reading data, bookmarks, notes, memorization progress and settings are stored only on your device, we do not retain copies of them. You can delete this information at any time by clearing the App's data or uninstalling the App. Cached audio and tafsir content that you have downloaded can be removed from within the App or by clearing its storage.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the App or to legal requirements. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
